This project was launched in 2008 from within the network of the East Northants Faith Group following a donation of £5,000 from Northamptonshire County council's Stronger Safer Community Funding pot. Further funding has been secured from NCC via Councillor Micheal Tye, and the NCF funding scheme. Click here to see BBC report on Rushden Street Pastors and the impact on local crime figures.

The next round of training begins on September 12th 2009. Contact Mark Lees at rushden@streetpastors.org.uk for more information on how you can be involved. Click here to see a poster outlining the training program.

This project has now been expanded into Northampton town centre (2009) Corby (2010) and Daventry (2010). It is hoped to see the work developed into Wellingborough and Kettering in 2010/2011. Covering all of the county.

Volunteers were raised from churches across East Northants, covering Oundle, Raunds and Rushden, and training begun in 2008 in partnership with Northampton Street Pastors. Teams have been active from October 2008 to go out on the streets providing a listening ear, a heart of concern and the light of the Gospel.

Street Pastors is a national innitiative of the Ascension Trust in a program backed by the Home Office and bringing Churches in a trinity partnership with local Police and community saftey teams. For information on Street Pastors click on the following link to Street pastors UK website

As a direct result of this project anti-social crime in Rushden High Street is down by some 60% based on Police crime statistics for the first 6 months of active street operations compared to previous years figures.

Training is now coordinated with Northampton Street Pastors and new volunteers are always welcome. A New sub project is also now planned for Daventry expanding our network accross the county.
